This square lies south of Aarhus Cathedral in the city centre and is named after Aarhus Bispegård, the bishop's residence, which stood here until it was demolished in 1881. The square took its present form in 1921 and covers about 3,000 m². An equestrian statue of Christian X stands here. After an idea competition in 2009 it was converted from a car park into a public space, with new cobblestones and green areas.
One of Northern Europe's largest Viking excavations took place here. For several years the square was a centre of Aarhus Festuge. The entrance is wheelchair accessible.
