This is Denmark's national knowledge, competence and development centre for voluntary social work. It advises voluntary organisations, offers competence development and analyses, and publishes guides on board work, fundraising, law and rules, and managing volunteers. It issues the Frivilligrapporten (the volunteer report) each year, first published in 2009.
The centre was founded in 1992 as a three-year trial project and received permanent funding in 1995. It is a self-governing institution under the Ministry of Social Affairs, with its office in Odense, chosen to underline its nationwide importance. It holds an annual leadership conference.
