The library is run by the Danish Film Institute and sits on the first floor of the Cinematheque in Copenhagen. It is open to everyone and holds a large collection of books and periodicals, an archive of newspaper and magazine clippings and several special collections. It has been the country's leading library for film and television literature since 1964.

In the videotheque you can watch feature films, short films, documentaries and television series free of charge on site, but they cannot be borrowed. There are 20 study places and Wi-Fi. Outside staffed hours, registered users can enter with a health insurance card and pin code. The entrance is wheelchair accessible.
