On the south coast of Stige Ø Nord in Odense stand about 30 small, self-built houses of wood, tar paper and recycled materials. Today the place is called Sorthusene, but it has also been known as Skyttehusene, Skydehusene and Sorte Huse. The houses were used as a leisure colony by fishers, hunters and former Lindø shipyard workers.
The land is owned by Odense Havnevæsen and leased to Odense Strandjagtforening, which rents out the houses. The first house was built in the 1900s, and in the early 1960s there were 63. They were built without official approval, and in 1967 the area was cleared and almost half of the houses were demolished. Just to the east lay Mortensens Skalleværk, where shells were dug until the 1970s.
