The museum tells the military history of Funen: Funen soldiers, resistance fighters and the Home Guard, with an exhibition on the occupation of 9 April 1940, the German occupation of 1940-45 and 400 years of Funen defence. The collection began in 1983 with items from the Funen Life Regiment and opened officially in 1984. It is now housed in the former administration building and guard and detention building on the barracks site.
There is a lecture series, guided tours for groups and school classes, also outside opening hours by arrangement, and a school service with material for teachers. Self-guided walking and cycling tours of Odense's resistance history come with audio narration. The entrance and parking are wheelchair accessible, but the toilet is not.
