This forest covers about 140 hectares and is one of the largest continuous natural areas in Odense Municipality. A development project supports nature for butterflies, frogs, birds and flowering plants. Old, fallen and dead trees are left in place as food and habitat. In 2022, 11 new ponds were created, designed especially for amphibians such as the great crested newt. The project was among the ten finalists in the Danish Wildest Municipality competition.
There is free access across the whole forest, including off the paths. Cattle and horses graze a large part of the area all year round, and visitors may enter the fenced grazing area.
