This upper secondary school in central Odense offers the STX, HF, GSK and SOF programmes. Its history goes back more than 700 years to the Black School at St Knud's Monastery, probably founded in 1283. Three Latin schools were merged in 1537, and the current building in the castle's kitchen garden dates from 1894. The school took part in the 1968 trial of the new HF exam.

It calls itself a green school with an environment council and has the student magazine PUNCH, said to be the country's oldest school paper, active since the 1930s. There are new laboratories, and students have reached the finals of the Physics Olympiad and Forskerspirer. About 100 staff work here, and workshops are offered for school classes.
