This park in Aarhus was laid out with the construction of Aarhus City Hall in 1942, and the architects Arne Jacobsen and Erik Møller included the garden and park in their plan. It lies on the former Aarhus Søndre Kirkegård (South Cemetery), in use from 1818 to 1926. There are open lawns and large trees, and the old trees date from the cemetery period. Crocuses flower on the lawns in March, and there are several sculptures and preserved gravestones in the southern part.
Beside the town hall is Rådhushaven, a perennial garden from the early 1940s, redesigned in 1999. The park is protected, with access around the clock and free entry. Dogs and service dogs are allowed, and the entrance and parking are wheelchair accessible.
