The 60-metre tower belongs to the city hall, which was inaugurated in 1941 and protected in 1995. The building was designed by Arne Jacobsen and Erik Møller and is considered a main work of Danish modernism. The tower was added after political and public pressure to give the city a landmark, and it holds a carillon that has been renovated.
Tower ascents are arranged at selected times by AarhusGuiderne, and guided tours of the city hall are offered. The building is open to visitors during the day on weekdays, and the entrance is wheelchair accessible.
