This independent, non-profit art school in Aarhus offers a four-year art education: a basic programme followed by three years of specialisation in painting, sculpture, graphics or ceramics. There are also courses for beginners and experienced students, and drawing courses for the youngest pupils. Professional artists teach, and the school runs artist talks, exhibitions and events.
The school was founded in 1960 as Det Jyske Kunstakademi and took its current name in 1964. Since 1971 it has been based in the former Schmalfeld tobacco factory, whose name still appears on the facade. The Kulturpas culture pass for ages 15 to 24 is accepted; contact the school by e-mail to use it. The entrance and parking are not wheelchair accessible.
