This local branch of the Danish Red Cross is a volunteer association founded in 1876 as the first local branch in Denmark. It runs more than 50 activities in Aarhus, from first aid and tackling loneliness to recycling. Several activities are run together with Aarhus Municipality and other voluntary organisations and are aimed at socially vulnerable citizens. Over 900 volunteers and members take part, and a board of 10 members is elected every two years.
The association runs seven second-hand shops in and around Aarhus, and they are its main source of income. First-aid courses are held every weekend, and volunteer samaritans can be booked for events. The address houses meeting rooms for activities and volunteers, as well as the secretariat.
