This peninsula north of Odense lies between Odense Kanal and Odense Fjord. It was formed from earth excavated when the canal was dug in 1796-1803, was a popular excursion destination in the first part of the 20th century, and from 1967 was used as a landfill. The landfill closed in 1994, and the large waste hills were covered with a thick layer of soil. Today it is a nature and activity area with a nature guide and information on plants, birds, butterflies, mammals and mussels.
There is a toilet on site, along with a mobile guide, overnight accommodation and a Søpavillon. A booklet about the area's history can be downloaded as a pdf. Entrance and parking are wheelchair accessible.
