This art school in Odense is a state-recognised, self-governing institution offering a five-year higher education in fine art. It was founded in 1944 by the painter Kaj Kylborg and is the second-largest art academy in Denmark and the only higher education in fine art in the Region of Southern Denmark. Teaching is workshop-based, with an international focus and collaboration across media and study years.
The school is housed in a neoclassical building from 1883, which was Odense's first museum building and formerly Fyns Kunstmuseum. The facade has sculptures, reliefs and a painted frieze of Nordic history and mythology, and the building is listed. There are exhibitions and lectures, and many events are free to attend.
