This forest belt stretches about 7 km along the coast south of Aarhus, with very hilly terrain and deep ravines. It holds a large, connected old beech forest, where some trees are 200-300 years old and the old beeches are nesting sites for hole-nesting birds. The northern part includes Marselisborg Palace, Marselisborg Mindepark, Forstbotanisk Have and Ballehage Strand with a bathing pier; to the south are Moesgaard Museum and Moesgaard Strand.
The area is used for running, cycling and walking, with about 25 km of mountain-bike tracks and marked riding and hiking routes. There is a kiosk, a toilet and bus parking, and admission is free.
