Nyboder Museum (Nyboders Mindestuer) is housed in one of the oldest terraced buildings in the Nyboder district on Sankt Pauls Gade, within walking distance of central Copenhagen. The surrounding yellow row houses were originally built in the 17th and 18th centuries to accommodate Royal Danish Navy sailors and their families and remain an iconic cityscape today. Inside a few modest rooms, the museum recreates period interiors from different centuries to show how naval families lived and how their homes changed over time.
Displays feature furniture, textiles, kitchenware, photographs, personal belongings and small thematic panels about Nyboder’s history and Denmark’s naval past. The experience is intimate rather than grand: this is a set of “memorial rooms” where guides and volunteers share stories about the residents and point out details of everyday life. The museum pairs naturally with a walk through the surrounding streets, allowing visitors to connect the furnished rooms with the living neighbourhood outside.
