The Museum of Copenhagen is housed in a historic building on Stormgade, just behind City Hall in the very centre of the city. The main exhibition leads visitors through key periods, from early settlements and the Viking age to today’s liveable modern capital. Large city models, archival photographs and interactive displays show how neighbourhoods, squares and everyday life have changed over time.

The permanent exhibition spans roughly from 12,000 BC to the present and gathers hundreds of objects, including archaeological finds, household items, transport pieces, urban signage and interior details. Dedicated sections highlight landmark areas such as Slotsholmen, City Hall Square, the bridge districts and the city’s newer neighbourhoods, together with stories of Copenhageners across the centuries. A museum shop, café and themed guided tours in the museum and around the city complete the experience.
